Jen Hickey

Director of

Jeannette Sullivan Hickey

Jeannette Sullivan Hickey has enjoyed "fun in the sun" at Camp Harkness for eighteen summers.  She began working there as a summer camp counselor at the age of sixteen, and was in the role of camp counselor when The Arc New London County took over the program in the summer of 1999.  The following year she became the Director and has been in this position at camp ever since.

The most important thing she loves about camp is offering a quality vacation experience for over 250 individuals across the state with Intellectual Disabilities.  "Everyone deserves a vacation and a break from life.  Camp offers this experience to people who may not otherwise have this unique and special opportunity."

In the off season, Jeannette is a teacher in the Ledyard Public School System.  She graduated from Johnson State College in Vermont in 1998 with a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education and Performing Art-Theater.  She began her teaching career soon after her graduation.  She has taught kindergarten through fourth grade in both Virginia and Connecticut.  She graduated from Southern Connecticut State University in 2005 with a Masters Degree is Reading.

In her "free time" Jeannette keeps busy with her family, including her son, Andrew.  She also enjoys playing the fife with local Fife and Drum Corps throughout the year.
